Back to Nominees. Belgium Opera Vlaanderen. Number of donors. In a musical exploration of this character as a sensitive, cultivated but at the same time psychologically traumatised, homosexual Nazi, we are confronted with the question of guilt in world conflicts and personal life. His compositions are being performed by the most well-known and prestigious ensembles across the world.

About the Project
The novel is structured into seven sections. Each section bears the name of a baroque suite, and we respected this in the opera: seven sections in total, four before the interval, and three after. The opera tells the story of the nazification of Max Aue. Despite the fact that he is half-French and halfGerman, he sees himself as entirely German, struggling to accept his part-French identity. He is also halfman, half-woman, but hates all women. He develops a homosexual relationship, all the while harbouring sentiments of love for his sister, the only person in his life that he cares about
The main character, SS officer Max Aue, is not only a witness but above all, also a participant in the horrors of war, but he is not burdened by it. It will be directed by Calixto Bieito. We're happy to invite you to our symposium on April 7th. More information and tickets are available here. Leave us your e-mail address and we will notify you when ticket sales start for this production. Warning: notifications will be sent in Dutch.
Opera Ballet Vlaanderen is the only opera company in the Flanders region. Since January it forms the biggest cultural institution of Flanders, after a successful merger between the Flemish Opera and Royal Ballet Flanders. The company performs the whole opera repertoire from the baroque to the contemporary and presents both the classics and the lesser known titles. Jan Vandenhouwe took on artistic leadership of opera in season , while Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui is artistic director ballet. Opera Ballet Vlaanderen regularly issues CDs and DVDs from its own productions, organises international symposiums and offers an elaborate side programme with lectures, productions for children, guided tours etc. All this contributes to the fact that Opera Ballet Vlaanderen has built up a broad and young audience.
